I was very pleased and privileged to receive a post card from #teamhonk who have been out in Ghana looking at some of the projects funded by the #goodwork that #comic relief has done over the past 25 years. This is a vaccination clinic set up to provide vaccine to prevent diarrhoea.

#Goodwork in Ghana

Yesterday morning we visited the Virtuous Women’s Bakery in Accra, Ghana. It’s been such an inspiring experience that I just don’t think that I have the words to do it justice and so here are my favourite photographs which I took at the project – I defy you to look at them and not smile with a sense of optimistic pride in these empowered and determined women and the good work that Comic Relief have done thanks to your donations.’

These are my favourite photos…the woman working with the sleeping baby on her back and the bakery teacher having fun with her class wearing the red nose…..it reminds me of all the fun we used to have in my class on Red Nose Day 🙂

 

 

 

#Team Honk

When I was a teacher, one of the events we used to look forward to as a school was Red Nose Day! We always had a lot of fun, wore red or dyed our hair red, raised money and learned something about other’s needs as well….I can’t quite remember if we took part in the first one, but I was definitely teaching then. Below are details of 3 special ladies who are flying out to Ghana tonight and who will be sending back postcards for us to share with you.

“The first ever Red Nose Day took place on Feb 5th 1988. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this inaugural event and to mark the occasion, Comic Relief would like to celebrate the progress of Africa and the difference the money raised by the public has made, both in Africa and here in the UK. Annie from Mammasaurus, Tanya from Mummy Barrow and Penny from Alexander Residence are visiting four projects in Ghana on 4th and 5th February to see for themselves the difference Red Nose Day money has been making. They are tweeting and blogging live during their two day visit so people can follow their progress. HOW CAN YOU BE PART OF #TEAMHONK? We would love some help to make Comic Relief’s 25th anniversary celebration go with a BANG! Chances are your donations from the last 25 years has helped to fund some of the work we will be seeing. “

The Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill

Yesterday, I was very pleased to receive a letter from my MP stating that “I am minded to support the legislation”…. This was a good result as I hope this Bill will go through without any problems. Everyone should be able to be close to the one they love and this includes the right to marry. Forget all the religious arguments for and against, it really is a matter of wanting the best for all members of our society and as he also says “The principles of long-term commitment and responsibility which underpin it bind society together and make it stronger”. Loving and wanting the best for someone you’re close to is one of the best feelings in the world…LONG LIVE LOVE 🙂
